HomelessNation.org is the world's first website by and for Canadians who are homeless. This participatory new media project allows voices from the street to engage in peer-to-peer dialogues and to convey their lived experiences to the broader public. Designed as a community-based social network for Canadians living on the street and in poverty, individuals harness the power of personal Internet publishing to speak out on issues that effect them, forge links with friends and loved ones, and gain access to services to improve their lives. It is a location of support and stability with over 4,100 registered citizens who otherwise have no voice or influence in mainstream society. Unfortunately, during these hard economic times the site is growing faster than ever.
